Outline and Exposé Writing
This one day workshop provides an application-oriented introduction to the essentials of exposé and outline writing in English. While some time will be devoted to the specifics of English academic language - vocabulary, grammar, paragraphing, style -, a substantial part of this course focuses on the structure and functions of a doctoral thesis proposal: introducing your topic and/or project, reviewing the state-of-the-art research in your field, formulating research questions and hypotheses, research design and methods as well as a work plan and schedule for the research project. Drawing on helpful techniques such as mind-mapping and by discussing numerous examples, the crucial points of writing an exposé or outline are all covered: defining and focusing a research project, showing a gap or niche in current research as well as presenting your own position within the larger research community.
This course will prepare you for writing or rewriting an exposé or outline according to the standards of the international academic community.
