Introduction to the reference management tool Zotero

Zotero is a reference and knowledge management software. This web based tool works mainly as an add-on to the browser. It supports students and researchers manage their literature, as well as help them to cite correctly in the writing process.

In this workshop we will discuss:

  • Installation
  • Functions of the Tool
  • How to add new items
  • Organizing content
  • Searching within Zotero
  • How to use Zotero to cite whilst writing
  • How do groups work in Zotero
  • Discussion of open questions

Participants should know the main functions of the programme and use the programme by themselves.

Trainer

Allison O’Reilly

Allison studied economics and sociology at the University of Freiburg, Germany. During her studies she worked for the student union as student service officer for two years. Allison joined the team of Research Services and Career Development at the University of Vienna in June 2010. She has built up and is further developing a service for international PhDs. Allison has held workshops for the Center for Doctoral Studies since 2011 and has organized several summer schools and trainings on topics such as career development, communication and time management.
