First partner meeting in Kenia

The first meeting of the OeAD KoEF project EAST SPARK - Empowering Academic Supervision Training in Eastern Africa: Sparking Potential, Advancing Research, and Knowledge (KoEF 195) took place from 17 to 22 February 2025 in Naivasha, Kenya.

Under the leadership of DLE Research Services & Career Development at the University of Vienna, the project brings together partners from a total of eight universities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Zimbabwe. The aim is to jointly develop a training programme for the supervision of doctoral students and to specifically adapt it to local conditions and needs in East Africa.

At the first project meeting in Kenya, which was joined by Lucas Ziner and Angela Meyer, the jointly designed training modules were tested in the group. The next step will be a pilot series of courses at the participating East African universities in autumn before the project partners meet again in March 2026 to finalise the training programme.
