Following calls directly regarding COVID-19 have been issued:

  • Corona Emergency Call: The Federal Government supports drug research related to the Covid-19 virus with a total of 23 million euros. Companies are primarily targeted. Research institutions (with the exception of MedUnis, which have their own budget) can be included as project partners. Further information can be found here.

  • FWF Urgent Funding for Research into Humanitarian Crises Like Epidemics and Pandemics: 
    The FWF offers a fast-track procedure in some of its funding programmes for proposals dealing with the prevention, early detection, containment, and research into the causes and effects of epidemics and pandemics such as SARS-CoV-2. This also includes projects that focus on the technical, ecological, economic, political, legal, medical, cultural, psychological, or ethical implications of SARS-CoV-2.
    Applications can be submitted between 06.04.2020 and 30.09.2020.
  • DFG-Call for Multidisciplinary Research into Epidemics and Pandemics in Response to the Outbreak of SARS-CoV-2
    The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is issuing a call for a multidisciplinary funding initiative. Funding is available for projects addressing the prevention, early detection, containment and investigation of the causes, impacts and management of epidemics and pandemics, taking the example of SARS-CoV-2 and other microorganisms and viruses that are pathogenic to humans. The participation of Austrian researchers is possible and will be funded by FWF according to the regulations for DACH-projects.

    This call aims to strengthen the evidence base to better prevent and control coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemics and to increase research and response capacity.

  • European Open Science Cloud: Fast-track co-creation funding for COVID-19 related activities, max. EUR 45.000 pro Antrag.

Our team supports researchers of the University of Vienna who apply for research projects. The service includes information on various national and international funding programmes as well as support in filing an application or project planning (particularly with regard to budgeting) and management.


Center for Doctoral Studies

The Center for Doctoral Studies is the central contact point for matters related to doctoral education at the University of Vienna. (Prospective) Doctoral candidats can contact the team of the Center to learn more about the sturcutre and requirements of a doctorate at the University of Vienna.


Knowledge and Technology Transfer

The University of Vienna Technology Transfer Office is tasked with promoting the transfer of University technologies to industry, thereby helping to commercialise inventions for the public good, and generating revenue for the University to invest in further research.
