Following calls directly regarding COVID-19 have been issued:

  • FWF Urgent Funding for Research into Humanitarian Crises Like Epidemics and Pandemics: 
    The FWF offers a fast-track procedure in some of its funding programmes for proposals dealing with the prevention, early detection, containment, and research into the causes and effects of epidemics and pandemics such as SARS-CoV-2. This also includes projects that focus on the technical, ecological, economic, political, legal, medical, cultural, psychological, or ethical implications of SARS-CoV-2.
    Applications can be submitted between 06.04.2020 and 30.09.2020.
  • FWF - Joint Projects - Urgent Funding: The FWF in its initiative for urgent funding for research into humanitarian crises like epidemics and pandemics is joined by several of its international partner research funding organisations. FWF and its partners aim at funding closely integrated bi- or trilateral joint research projects in which researchers from Austria and one or two partner countries combine their complementary expertise. A substantial scientific contribution is expected from all partners.
  • DFG-Call for Multidisciplinary Research into Epidemics and Pandemics in Response to the Outbreak of SARS-CoV-2
    The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is issuing a call for a multidisciplinary funding initiative. Funding is available for projects addressing the prevention, early detection, containment and investigation of the causes, impacts and management of epidemics and pandemics, taking the example of SARS-CoV-2 and other microorganisms and viruses that are pathogenic to humans. The participation of Austrian researchers is possible and will be funded by FWF according to the regulations for DACH-projects.

EU and International Calls

  • PRACE support to mitigate impact of COVID-19 pandemic - PRACE is welcoming project proposals requesting computing resources to contribute to the mitigation of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
    Deadline: This call is open until further notice. Applications are evaluated within one week and start as soon as possible if awarded.
